Fuck Sod's Law. I wanted to know who this pessimistic 'Sod was' and here's my summary:
E.G "Toast will always land butter side down" is often given as an example of Sod's law.
The phrase is seemingly derived, at least in part, from the colloquialism : "unlucky sod".
And that's all, it's also on an album (Spear of Destiny) which is a good album and song.
But, after searching, there was no Sod. He didn't exist. How depressing.
Yet, there is an extremely confusing hypothesis and reasoning behind Sod's law, which I will try and decipher for you.
The Hypothesis
Urgency(U)
Complexity(C)
Importance(I)
Skill(S)
Frequency(F)
And then, I summarised it into these lists.
- Rate the urgency, importance and complexity of the task on a scale of 1 to 9 and add these figures together.
- Rate how skilled you are at the task. Subtract this from 10.
- Multiply your answers to steps 1 and 2 together and divide by 20.
- Rate from 1 to 9 how frequently you perform the task and divide this by 10.
- Calculate the sine value of your answer to step 4 (you’ll find this a ‘sin’ on most calculators) and subtract this from 1.
- Divide 1 by your answer to step 5.
- Finally, multiply your answer to step 3 by 0.7, and then multiply this by your answer to step 6. Voila - you have your Sod’s Law rating.
- The closer to 10 it is, the higher your risk of falling victim to Sod’s Law.
Anyway, this wasn't that mini, but it was a fun topic. Facebook comment or Blogger comment on some events you tried. I think this'll be fun to try.
But, don't be mistaken between your idiocy and Sods law.
